Jef Raskin, author of the bestselling computer science book The Humane Interface (Addison Wesley 2001), was a pioneer in the field of user interface design. As creator of the Macintosh project at Apple and CEO of Information Appliance Inc., Jef’s contributions in the computer world are historical and legendary.
In 2003, two years before his untimely death from pancreatic cancer, Jef turned his creative genius toward designing a better cell phone.
Like all of Jef’s inventions – including the Macintosh, the one-button mouse, and the Canon Cat – the Simphone (or ZUI Phone) is an inspired departure from standard design. Its virtues are ease of use, respect for the user, and wide-ranging capability.
I had the honor and the privilege to work with Jef Raskin’s as a UI/UX Designer for the ZUI project - a truly out of the box and innovative experience.
